Visual Gait Lab

Overview

VGL is a software that greatly simplifies workflow for neuroscientists studying gait through utilization of machine learning, and a streamlined UX. I developed it solo when working for Whelan Lab (research in motor control).

Utilized my existing UX/UI skills and my basic graphic design skills.

I wrote an entire Windows application and integrated a deep learning toolbox (DeepLabCut) into it. All with the goal of creating a novel scientific method to study gait. I also put emphasis on great user experience by streamlining the software's installation (.exe installer) and creating a simple user interface. I took advantage of continuous feedback during development by communicating with future users of VGL. Furthermore, we published a paper in the Journal of Neuroscience Methods about it. I also learned how to develop software based on requirements from a "client", as well as basics of machine learning.
